Interview: The Minus Men

The Bio (aka background info) :

THEMINUSMEN are a well-meshed blend of sounds ranging from the darkest pieces of a broken heart to far-away psychedelic grooves that wash away the pain. With three harmonizing vocalists, brooding lyrics, and lush musical layouts, THEMINUSMEN integrate modern day angst with Eastern aesthetics.

With friendships and musical relationships going back as far as 1994, the talented foursome was completed in 2004. THEMINUSMEN have been an active part of Virginia's local music scene ever since. On any given night they can be found headlining an event at an "underground" Goth nightclub or performing an "up close and personal" freebie at a used record store. Their dedication to the music truly shows, with each band member actively participating in the creative process, and capable of performing on a variety of instruments. Their musical role-models include Joy Division, Pink Floyd, and The Cure amongst others who have sustained popularity throughout the decades.

THEMINUSMEN currently have 2 releases which include a 4 song out of print demo and a 7 song EP titled ..Here lies the faceless... They are currently in the studio working on their feature full length album which is slated for completion before the end of 2006. They also have a documentary along with several live performances currently in the editing stages of production.

The official front man, twenty-four year old Donald Hart presents a "force to be reckoned with" persona while delivering broken-hearted sentiments through growls and soaring vocals. He is also one of the two founding members of the band going back to 1997.

Anthony Burgess, the bands twenty-four year old drummer has style reminiscent of Boris Williams and Danny Carey. He acts as the strong heartbeat without overwhelming the body of the band, occasionally stepping from behind the drums to grab the guitar. Anthony is the other founding member from 1997.

Backing vocalist and lead guitar player, twenty-six year old Jeremiah Boothe, maintains the stream of consciousness with soft, pleasingly-dark harmonies while executing exquisite six string tales. Joining in 2003 Jeremiah took the bands sound and song writing in a whole new direction.

Twenty-two year old Leah Medley whispers sweet nothings as she plots the course on bass guitar and pulls at your heart strings with sadly sweet clarinet compositions. The name says it all. Upon joining in 2004 Leah completed the lineup.

The end product is an unnervingly relate-able tale of highs and lows set against a beautifully rendered, blood-drenched sound-scape. Lulling sounds flow over the listener, giving a false sense of security. It is like falling asleep in a warm bath, only to drown.
